Last month, Russian authorities separated 13-year-old Maria Moskalyova from her father after her teacher reported her for drawing a picture in support of Ukraine.
A supporter of Russian citizen Alexei Moskalyov, who was convicted of discrediting the country's armed forces in the course of Russia-Ukraine military conflict, holds a T-shirt with a portrait of Moskalyov's daughter Masha outside a courthouse in the town of Yefremov in the Tula region, Russia, April 6, 2023. REUTERS/ Evgenia Novozheninaafter she drew a picture in support of Ukraine at school has been handed by authorities to her estranged mother, an official said.
The girl had drawn a woman and a child near a Ukrainian flag and missiles flying at them, with a Russian flag next to them. Her headmistress contacted the police. "Her position has changed, she told me about it on the phone," added Lvova-Belova, who is wanted for her alleged role in "deporting" Ukrainian children.
Her father, due in court Thursday to potentially lose custody of her, sent a letter to his daughter through his lawyer, in which he told her "hang in there."
