DEADLIEST STRIKE. Ukrainian servicemen wait outside a military educational facility after it was hit by Russian missiles in Poltava, eastern Ukraine on Tuesday amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At least 51 people were killed and hundreds wounded in a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Poltava, authorities said, in one of the single deadliest strikes of the two-and-a-half-year war.

Sirens rang out over the city of Lviv before sunrise on Wednesday, according to Mayor Andriy Sadovy, who advised people to take shelter as air defenses worked to down a barrage of missiles. He also repeated calls for Western partners to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons to “respond justly” to the attacks.

The announcement came a day after several other ministers resigned in a significant government reset two-and-a-half years into Russia’s invasion.
