Vice President Leni Robredo vowed to push for more bike lanes and projects centered on commuters nationwide if elected president next year.

"Ito 'yung pinapangarap ko sa buong Pilipinas, lalo na sa Metro Manila, na nakita natin 'yung need talaga nito during the pandemic," Robredo said on the sidelines of an event in Iloilo City.

"'Yun 'yung pinapangarap natin na sana 'yung streets natin, maging more friendly sa pedestrians, sa bikers, kasi ang dami talagang benefits," she added. [Translation: This is my aspiration for the Philippines, especially for Metro Manila where the pandemic stressed the need for these. That's what we dream of, for our streets to be more friendly to pedestrians, to bikers, because they provide so many benefits.]

Last month, Robredo said she would boost the budget for bike lanes to ₱14 billion from the current ₱1.6 billion. The Department of Transportation has completed a total of 497 kilometers of bike lanes in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.
