The seizure last Friday was carried out by a team from the RMC Special Investigation Branch in collaboration with the Sepanggar Port Import Export Branch and the Kota Kinabalu Enforcement Operations Unit.

Sabah Customs Assistant Director-General Mohd Nasir Deraman said based on risk assessment and scanner images, the raiding team swooped in for the 10.30am seizure. “The team found a total of 23,868 litres of various beer valued at RM85,760 and RM348,290 in taxes.“Fifteen minutes later, the team detained another container also suspected of the same offence. It contained 22,176 litres of beer valued at RM84,040 with a tax value of RM343,816,” he told a press conference.

“The modus operandi for all three cases is to make false declarations in a bid to fool authorities. “Among items declared are printers, insulated wire, wooden furniture, dining tables, sewing machine computer accessories, poultry feeding equipment and fibre cement furniture for the purpose of smuggling,” he said. The case is being investigated according to Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
