Social Services staff has presented a draft $85-million budget to the board, its largest ever. A final budget will be presented at the March meeting
Rising costs for land ambulance service and community housing have contributed to a Social Services budget, if approved as is, to be its largest ever.
David Petersson, DSSAB’s director of Corporate Services, told the board staff will continue to sharpen its pencils before presenting the final budget at next month’s meeting. For the $22,823,727 portion of 2023’s draft budget which would affect the municipal levy, the largest increases are driven by two factors — community housing and the rising costs of providing land ambulance service.
“The construction costs, some of the capital costs that are coming into play — it’s very difficult to keep up,” he said. That increase is driven by the need for two new ambulances, as well as more than $128,500 for new stretchers.
