DSSAB board chair Luke Dufour says the patience of municipalities across the province is wearing thin and urgent action is needed from the province to prevent, reduce and end homelessness

The local Social Services administration board is calling on the provincial government to urgently come up with a plan to prevent, reduce and ultimately end homelessness for good and to acknowledge that homelessness in Ontario is a social, economic and health crisis.

The resolution blames underinvestment and poor policy choices by successive provincial governments and is asking for urgent action to be taken by those currently in power on an emergency basis. "I think there are a lot of politicians from other municipalities that thought they could play nice and get along and eventually the government would fund them and do something and reward the loyalty and I think people are just getting more and more upset as they feel that is not going to be what happens," said Dufour at Thursday's meeting.

Dufour noted that the DSSAB resolution that passed unanimously on Thursday came as a result of that AMO meeting.
