Ottawa's Rideau Canal Skateway will not open this winter
The Rideau Canal Skateway will not open for skating this winter.
The National Capital Commission announced the world's largest skating rink will remain closed for the winter due to the mild temperatures. "Despite our best efforts, the weather got the best of us for the first time in our history," the NCC said on Twitter. This is the first year in the 53-year history of the Rideau Canal Skateway that the canal will not open for skating.Even the cold of the last 24 hours couldn’t make up for this winter’s higher-than-average temperatures, snow and rain, which contributed to a thin and porous ice surface.
