The Philippine government’s plan to raise $2 billion by offering dollar-denominated bonds to the investing public, targeting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), is set to be conducted during the latter part of the third quarter of 2023.

National Treasurer Rosalia De Leon said that the aim of the retail dollar bond offering is to provide OFWs an “an outlet for investing.” DOF file photo

In October last year, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno said the government would be raising funds from the debt market with a planned retail bond offering targeting OFWs, who can purchase bonds using e-wallets. “Hindi ka kailangan maging Pinoy from abroad. Pwede ka dito. Kung meron kang [dollar] account, automatically convert to dollar,” the Finance chief said.

“We are doing all the marketing now. If markets are favorable, around September. Maybe late August or early September,” De Leon said.
