"If he wasn't in the classroom teaching, he was in the halls walking around. He was never in his office. He was out talking to people." "He made sure that he was always there to guide and help, but at the same time, he was firm enough with kids that needed that kind of direction and firmness and some control in their lives. So he was, I guess it was his ability to recognize what kids really needed."
"I think he played a big role in me trying to see the positives and potential strengths in people — in me trying not to prejudge people and giving everyone a chance/opportunity to succeed," she said. "We had 29 teachers laid off and we thought that was unjust and we thought finances weren't what they should have been for the Northside area. As a result of the walkout and the dispute with the school board, and the support of teachers all across the province, we were able to reinstate all 29 teachers in their positions.
"He wanted to be happy and he wanted other people to be happy. He was a thoughtful and caring person," said Colleen, 48, who is a lawyer. "He was always able to speak with anybody he met. World leaders or strangers on the street, who would talk to them the same way and show them the same respect," said Colleen.
