Reimagining the energy transition
A REPORT published this week by energy think tank Ember sounded an alarm about the energy transition among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations , in that the transition from fossil fuel-based sources of electricity generation to more environmentally sustainable renewable energy is not only not happening, it is actually moving in reverse.
Furthermore, the report presents an idealized image of RE-based energy supply. Solar and wind are complementary, it asserts, as solar works well during the day and wind 'in many regions' works well at night, and these can be supported by battery storage systems, as well as cross-border transmission interconnectivity. Other forms of RE are given short shrift.
