She arrived in the country on Thursday, May 25, and faced a group of local media scribes for her official press conference at the Novotel Manila Araneta City in Quezon City on Friday.“Thank you for welcoming me with a typhoon. I haven’t experienced that one yet,” she said with a hearty chuckle. When she captured her international title in Tokyo in December, Selberg said she was “happy to write history” for her country as a history student herself. This time, she will once again make history as the first non-Filipino reigning queen of a global pageant to grace the Bb. Pilipinas stage.
Selberg’s history-making victory broke Germany’s 33-year title drought in the Miss International pageant. Before her, German beauty Iris Klein took home the crown in 1989. Ingrid Fenger, the first winner from Germany, was crowned in 1965.
