Rappler wins Makatao Award for animation report on abducted activists

The Makatao Awards recognize media's 'contribution in advancing public knowledge and for the commitment to promote sound people management in the country'

It was investigated by Rappler’s justice reporter Lian Buan, and animated by artists David Castuciano and Nico Villarete. Artist Alejandro Adoria, production specialists Ulysis Pontanares, Errol Almario, Franz Lopez, Jeff Digma, Naoki Mengua; and video editor Jen Agbuya contributed to the video report. Chay Hofileña was the investigative head, and Beth Frondoso was the production head.

“The honor goes to the human rights defenders who persistently defend our rights. August 30 is the International Day of the Disappeared, so I urge everyone in this room to continue to look for those who, unfortunately unlike Armand, Dyan, Jonila and Jhed, have not been surfaced,” said Buan when she accepted the award.The Makatao Awards recognize media’s “contribution in advancing public knowledge and for the commitment to promote sound people management in the country.
