THE House of Representatives Committee on Labor and Employment on Thursday approved a P200 daily wage increase for minimum wage earners. All panel members approved the bill, saying that the P200 per day hike was a compromise agreement between various labor groups and House leaders.
The approved bill was the consolidated version of various House bills, including House Bill 00525 , HB 01111 , HB 03308 , HB 04471 , HB 04898 , and HB 10319 , among others.At present, the minimum wage rate for non-agricultural workers in Metro Manila is P645. The minimum wage rate for agricultural workers, service or retail establishments with 15 employees or less, and manufacturing companies with less than 10 workers is uniform at P608.
A low level of education refers to individuals who have not attained sufficient formal education, which can limit their job opportunities, earning potential and career advancement.These workers often accept below-minimum wages for economic reasons. It becomes a matter of survival — accept lower compensation or have no work at all. These issues persist due to insufficient government enforcement of labor laws.
