Adrian Nocum exploded for 28 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, as Rain or Shine rallied past Converge , 114-104, to force a decisive Game 3 in their PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup quarterfinal series on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila. Nocum, a shifty guard for Rain or Shine, was instrumental in their victory, shooting 11-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
He teamed up with import Deon Thompson to keep Converge from sweeping the series and advancing to their first-ever semifinals. Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao highlighted the team's improved defense as a key factor in their turnaround. In Game 1, the Elasto Painters struggled to contain Converge's import Cheick Diallo, along with young big men Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar, who dominated the paint. However, in Game 2, Rain or Shine responded with a much stronger defensive effort, holding Diallo to 17 points and 15 rebounds while also getting him into foul trouble. Arana also finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, but he, alongside Diallo and Baltazar, was largely ineffective in the final quarter. Thompson, who fouled out early in the third period of Game 1, was a force in Game 2, racking up 28 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists. Jhon Clarito chipped in with 19 points, hitting 3-of-4 from three-point range, while Anton Asistio added 10. For Converge, Jordan Heading led the way with a team-high 29 points, including 18 in the opening quarter. Alec Stockton added 20 points. Rain or Shine and Converge will face off in a winner-takes-all Game 3 on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City
