MANILA, Philippines — Rain or Shine has brought in a new import in Ivorian big man Deon Thompson to replace Kenneth Kadji for the team's PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup.ROS assistant coach Caloy Garcia said the Kadji, listed at 6-foot-11, 'did not fit' the team's system, thus, the import change.'Coach Yeng just wanted a different type of import because he didn't fit the system,' Garcia told the Manila Times on Wednesday.
Before building his pro basketball career overseas, Thompson was part of the North Carolina Tar Heels under famed collegiate coach Roy Williams that ruled the 2009 NCAA men's basketball title.That Tar Heels squad had several future NBA players led by Danny Green, who would go on to win three NBA championships, along with Wayne Ellington, Ty Lawson, Ed Davis and Tyler Hansbrough.
