THE Department of Agriculture reported P315.3 million damage in the agriculture sector amid rains and floods brought by the shearline and northeast monsoon in parts of the country. In its latest report, the DA added that among those affected were 10,182 farmers with a volume of production loss at 3,049 metric tons covering 15,566 hectares of agricultural areas in Mimaropa , Bicol, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.
'Affected commodities include rice, corn, high value crops, livestock and poultry,' the DA said. According to the DA, the bulk of the damage was reported on the rice plantation with P297.4 million production loss totaling to 3,011 MT covering 13,245 hectares. The damage to corn output reached P16.1 million covering 2.297 hectares; P1.7 million for high value crops; and livestock and poultry, P174,300.
