Anthony Raga came close to eclipsing his previous finish but settled for the runner-up honors in the 2023 China Open 9-Ball Championship in Shanghai over the weekend.

The 26-year-old Cebuano yielded to former world 9-ball champion Joshua Filler of Germany, 11-5, to clinch his second straight runner-up finish in the tournament that was returning from a four-year hiatus.

In 2019, Raga almost clinched the crown but eventually lost to hometown bet Wu Jiaqing, 11-10. Wu, however, did not compete in this year’s edition.
