Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte extends Christmas greetings and highlights the importance of family during the holiday season.
EXTENDING her administration's best wishes to its constituents on Christmas Day, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said they have been providing the QCitizens all forms of assistance and support to ensure a joyful yuletide celebration.Citing the importance of family, Belmonte emphasized in her Christmas messages that 'our loved ones should be at the center of our Christmas celebration.
'In the middle of commercialism, the mayor said the family must still be the center of Christmas celebrations for Filipinos.Christmas is for the family, no matter how one defines family, she said.There is the traditional family composed of parents and their children and families guided by a grandparent or two caring for their grandchildren whose parents are working abroad, she said.Likewise, Belmonte acknowledged that modern families now come in many forms, with some being headed by a single man or a single woman.Others are called blended or stepfamilies, which are two families joined by love, she pointed out.'Then there are families led by two men or two women. There are families made up of friends,' she said further.Amid these changes, Belmonte assured QCitizens that the local government is always ready to extend a helping hand to those who need it most.'This year, we were able to fix the documents of many pairs of our QCitizens who have been living together without the benefit of marriage,' Belmonte said.'We also provided LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex and asexual) couples the right to decide for their partner when one is in need of medical attention,' the mayor added.The local government also responded to calls from parents abroad who needed help in providing guidance to their children living in the cit
