Health authorities have a clearer picture of when Queensland’s current COIVID-19 wave will peak and it is not good news for Christmas parties.
Queensland’s current COVID-19 wave is now expected to be peaking over Christmas, the state’s chief health officer has confirmed.
There were 515 people in hospital in the reporting period, up from 320 beds the previous week, and eight people in ICU with the virus – the same as the last period. Queensland Chief Health Officer John Gerrard is urging people to skip events on Christmas Day if they’re sick.“We are in week five of our wave and case numbers are continuing to increase,” he said.Gerrard said anyone who was feeling unwell should reconsider going to gatherings on Christmas Day to avoid spreading the virus to at-risk family members.
The state’s traffic light system for COVID-19 remains on amber, meaning people are advised to wear a mask in healthcare settings, indoors if they cannot socially distance, and on public transport, although the measures are suggestions only and are not mandated.
