More than 171,000 domestic and family violence incidents occurred in Queensland over the past year, and police are determined to improve how they respond to these cases.
"Over 90 per cent of all of our officers have now done three-day domestic and family violence training … for our recruits, 19 days of their training now includes domestic and family violence [focused] training," he said."They are understanding how important it is to get those responses right."
"I understand it is with the Department of Justice and Attorney-General for some more work and then we'll get [it] back before cabinet in due course," he explained. The Palaszczuk government has accepted all the recommendations "in principle" and is expected to release its final position sometime this year.The report found a "failure of leadership" allowed cultural issues in QPS to fester "unchecked" for years.
Mr Gollschewski said Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll is "doing a very good job in a very difficult environment".
