The money, she said, was only a portion of the over P18 billion the city government spent for the Covid-19 response, which also involved the establishment of several quarantine and isolation facilities as well as molecular laboratories.
THE Quezon City government used some P100-million 'savings' from abandoned or neglected infrastructure projects under the administration of former mayor Herbert 'Bistek' Bautista in its Covid-19 response, reelected Mayor Maria Josefina 'Joy'' Belmonte said.She told The Manila Times that she used the funds saved from those projects for its Covid-19 response, particularly in giving cash assistance to 'QCitizens' at the height of the pandemic.
They found out that a large number of the projects had either been abandoned or neglected by their contractors.'We had to look for the budget for our Covid-19 response since the funds were not included in the city's annual appropriations. We were able to generate some P100-million out of these neglected infrastructure projects,' Belmonte said.
