MANILA – Provincial buses may continue plying EDSA as a Quezon City court has issued a preliminary injunction against the ban on buses from outside Metro Manila at the major thoroughfare.
In an order dated July 31, Judge Caridad Walse-Lutero of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 223 approved the writ of preliminary injunction filed by 18 bus transport groups. It said that as "the matter on hand greatly impacts on the welfare of the public," it needs to hear the side of the impleaded agencies: - the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board .
The injunction also suspended the prohibition of the issuance of business permits to all public utility vehicles and operators along EDSA. It said it was not clear to the court why P2P buses "are given a special privilege of plying EDSA," adding that such distinction was "unreasonable."
