An architectural rendering of the proposed affordable housing development at Janeway Place in St. John’s. -Computer screenshotST. JOHN'S, N.L. — St. John’s city council has sent a development application for affordable housing on to the next step in the process: a public meeting.
The proponent is the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corp., which wants to build four two-storey apartment buildings, each containing eight units, for a total of 32 units. If approved, the buildings will be situated on a 12,445-square-metre lot that is provincially owned. The lot was once used as a helicopter landing pad for the former Janeway children’s hospital, before the hospital was moved to the Health Sciences Centre.
