Planned budget down, not up
Belleville council will see a much lower capital spending plan for this year than the one passed last year.
Staff will present a draft capital budget at council’s meeting Monday. It totals close to $58.5 million dollars, downIncluded are 12 road reconstruction, roadside, and bridge projects, 9 combined road and water/sewer projects, someThe budget contains $4 million for design and partial construction on the former Quinte Exhibition grounds at Sidney Street and Bridge Street West
and $1.5 million for work at Sidney Street and College Street West, including widening of the intersection. The purchase of 3 zero-emissions transit buses is budgeted at just over $5 million and almost $2 million has been set aside for renewal projectsAbout 30% of the total budget is to be paid by long-term debt.
