Progress in sight on boosting EV sector
THE prospects for developing a stronger electric vehicle market in the Philippines improved greatly this week with the passage of House Bill 10960, which corrected the flawed Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act by extending zero-tariff status for EVs and expanding the classifications of eligible vehicles to include 2- and 3-wheeled vehicles, as well as hybrid electric vehicles .
While we are not so conceited as to assume our views had a deciding effect on the crafters of HB 10960 — in any event, the inclusion of HEVs was also endorsed by the National Economic Development Authority — we are certainly pleased to see three of the four included in the new measure.And in the form it was passed, HB 10960 does not completely overlook the recommendation to incentivize the development of a domestic EV industry.
