Cats take Everett Silvertips in a 3-1 victory
The Prince George Cougars collected their first win of 2023 with a 3-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips, Saturday at the CN Centre.
Ty Young posted his ninth win of the season, making 26 saves on 27 Everett shots. Riley Heidt led the way offensively for Prince George, scoring twice, including a late empty netter to seal the win. Everett got the scoring started late in the opening period with Austin Roest firing a wrist shot by Young to make it 1-0.
Everett limited the Cougars to just 4 shots in the opening period. In the second, the Cougars found the equalizer with Riley Heidt ripping one top corner on Tyler Palmer to get the game tied. Just over 10 minutes later, Caden Brown hammered a one-timer off a 2 on 1 to put the Cougars ahead late in the period.
The Cats remained ahead 2-1 after two periods. Ty Young was fantastic in the net for Prince George in the third period, making several terrific stops to keep the Cougars ahead. With the Silvertips net empty in the third, Riley Heidt was able to deposit the puck in the open cage to solidify a 3-1 win for the Cougars.
