UVic Vikes 82, Regina Cougars 78 in Jan. 6, 2023 game
The U Sports nationally third-ranked University of Victoria Vikes survived a scare by rallying to beat the Regina Cougars 82-78 in Canada West men’s basketball action Friday night in the Saskatchewan capital. The Vikes trailed heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Cougars 28-15 in the final stanza to pull out the victory.
UVic moved to 9-2 in conference while the Cougars fell to 5-4. Third-year shooting-guard Diego Maffia led the Vikes with 28 points while freshman Renaldo Robinson added 24 points and sophomore Elias Ralph 10. Meanwhile, Ashlyn Day of UVic scored a game-high 30 points but it wasn’t enough as the Vikes women’s team fell 89-63 to the Canada West-leading Regina Cougars .The Vikes squads return to CARSA Gymnasium next weekend to host their University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves counterparts in Canada West play.
