President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directs the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to prioritize responsible management of public funds, ensuring they are channeled into projects that benefit the Filipino people. He praises the BIR for exceeding its collection target for the first time in two decades, emphasizing the need for efficient allocation and expenditure of these funds to fuel national development.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized the vital role of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in effectively managing public funds for the betterment of the community. During the BIR's 2025 National Tax Campaign launch in Pasay City on Tuesday, President Marcos stressed the importance of vigilance and responsible stewardship.
He urged the BIR to remain steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding every peso collected, ensuring that it is channeled into programs that directly serve the Filipino people.President Marcos lauded the BIR for achieving a significant milestone by surpassing its revenue collection target for the first time in two decades. This remarkable feat, attributed to strengthened enforcement measures and advancements in digitization, resulted in the collection of nearly P3 trillion in taxes last year. The President highlighted the immense potential of this revenue, pointing out that it could readily fund 1,140,800 new schools, 190,133 kilometers of roads, and 167,014 rural health facilities. However, President Marcos underscored the equally crucial aspect of proper allocation and expenditure of these funds. He emphasized the need to ensure that every peso collected translates into tangible projects that contribute to national development and improve the lives of all Filipinos. He also commended the BIR's successful efforts against tax fraud, particularly through the Run After Fake Transactions (RAFT) program, which has led to the filing of cases against ghost sellers and buyers. The program generated P4.33 billion in 2024, a substantial increase from the P618 million collected in 2023. President Marcos urged taxpayers to maintain their commitment to compliance, assuring them that their contributions directly support vital sectors such as education, infrastructure, and healthcare
