Even a few popular regional towns notched up more than $700 million in sales apiece this year as tree-changers took advantage of remote working arrangements.
The suburb with the highest total value of house sales over the past year was Mosman in Sydney.
Kellyville, in Sydney’s northwest, took third spot at almost $1.13 billion across 621 sales, followed by Melbourne’s leafy Kew and bayside Brighton .Blue-chip Mosman was popular among buyers because of its location on the harbour and proximity to the city, David Murphy Residential’s David Murphy said.
“People often refer to it as a destination suburb – they rarely leave. If they can get into the Mosman market, they tend to stay in it,” he said.In Melbourne, Point Cook made the list due to a higher volume of sales than some of its more expensive cousins.Jason South Harb said the rapidly growing suburb is larger than most, has great schools and good parks and shopping precincts, and is popular among first-home buyers for its entry-level listings and family-friendly feel.
It was followed by Hope Island on the Gold Coast , Buderim on the Sunshine Coast , Orange in NSW’s central west and Upper Coomera on the Gold Coast .
