ABOUT 2,000 police officers backed by riot squads raided the vast Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound in Davao City on Saturday to serve arrest warrants for fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy, who is wanted for sexual abuse and human trafficking.A 50-year-old KoJC member reportedly died due to a heart attack during the massive police raid that started at dawn in the group's compound in Davao City, livestreamed online by SMNI, a local TV network owned by the group, police said.
Police contingents from several regions in Mindanao are deployed at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ Compound in Davao City on Aug. 24, 2024, to provide order and security amid the pending arrest of its founder, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, who is believed to be hiding inside his church. About 2,000 policemen stormed the compound at around 5 a.m. but failed to find Quiboloy. The self-proclaimed ‘Son of God’ is facing charges of human trafficking and child abuse.
Authorities dismissed as fake news the reports circulating that at least seven KoJC members died during the police operation.Officers brought equipment that could detect people behind cement walls. But by mid-afternoon, they found no sign of Apollo Quiboloy in the compound — some 30 hectares that include a cathedral, a school, a living area, a hangar and a taxiway leading to Davao International Airport.
