A police officer in Zamboanga City was awarded two medals for his bravery in neutralizing two most wanted persons during a shootout. The officer, who was also injured in the incident, received the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting (PNP Wounded Personnel Medal) and Medalya ng Kagalingan (PNP Medal of Merit).
The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula has awarded two medals to a policeman who neutralized two most wanted persons in a recent shootout in a west coast village in Zamboanga City . Police Brigadier General Bowenn Joey Masauding, PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula director, personally pinned the medals when he visited on Saturday, January 4, to Police Senior Master Ryan Mariano, who is recuperating at a local hospital.
The PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula said Masauding had awarded Mariano the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting (PNP Wounded Personnel Medal) and Medalya ng Kagalingan (PNP Medal of Merit), symbolizing his extraordinary efforts. Along with the medals, Masauding also handed over financial aid to the brave policeman. Mariano neutralized two most wanted persons in a shootout while he was rendering security duty at Mount Carmel Parish Church in Ayala village, 16 kilometers west of Zamboanga City on New Year’s Eve. The shootout ensued when the two slain suspects who were riding in tandem on a motorcycle opened fire prompting Mariano to return fire instantly killing the driver. The other suspect was declared dead by the attending physician at a private hospital. Mariano was also rushed to the hospital as he was also wounded during the shootout. During the visit, Masauding personally expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Mariano's dedication and valor in the line of duty. Masauding emphasized the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel and assured Mariano and his family of the police force's unwavering support. The visit underscores PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula’s commitment to acknowledging the courage of its personnel and maintaining the safety and security of the community
