IPIL, Philippines –Police authorities arrested a councillor of Siay town in Zamboanga Sibugay for illegal possession of firearm on Tuesday, July 23.

Police Col. Jerry Protacio, police provincial director, identified the official as Julius Acosta, Sr., ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan.

The 70-year-old suspect is the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay. He is also the father of the town’s incumbent mayor and vice mayor, Jarvis Acosta and Julius Acosta, Jr., respectively. He was arrested by operatives from the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Office, Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Mobile Force Company, and Siay Municipal Police Station.

Protacio said the police were conducting Operation Bakal Sita when they chanced upon the gun-carrying Acosta in a billiard hall in Barangay Poblacion.He is now detained at the Siay Municipal Police detention cell.
