Charlottetown Deputy Mayor Alanna Jankov says her resolution for a community action plan is part of the city’s response to ongoing issues with drugs and crime. – Logan MacLean/SaltWireSaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for September 1, 2023 | SaltWireCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Police in Charlottetown have a new task for the fall: creating a “community action plan” for illegal drug use and related activities in the capital.

“The overall idea … was for us to look at and reach out to police, they can find their data and they can present that to us with their plan. And then as council, we can see how we can best support our police services as one of many entities trying to work with the community for mental health and addictions.”It is unclear just what the next steps are once the plan is complete because the whole picture of safety concerns and statistics has not yet come together, Jankov said.

Another step in this process is a Sept. 5 town hall meeting at Birchwood Intermediate School, where police will learn about public concerns and tell residents how they can best contact police.
