THE COUNTRY’S Interior and Local Government chief on Monday vowed to boost the Philippine police’s capabilities against cyber-crime.

Interior Secretary Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. said he would provide new equipment and hire more technical experts for the Philippine National Police’s anti-cyber-crime division.

The new Interior chief also said people should know how to report cyber-crime cases to the authorities. Former President Rodrigo R. Duterte in April vetoed the proposed SIM Card Registration Act, citing the need to further study the proposal. BAP said unauthorized withdrawals and transfers reached more than P1 billion last year due to higher cyber-crime incidents and digital transactions amid a coronavirus pandemic.
