The Philippines has already sent an appeal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the possible inclusion of Manny Pacquiao in next year’s Paris Olympics.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Bambol Tolentino told reporters on Sunday evening that he already sent an email to the IOC for Pacquiao to be included in the Olympics via the universality places. However, he bared that the reply may be given next year.
“They applied for universality place. I do not know if that’s the same with swimming and athletics, because in boxing, it is explicitly stated that the purpose of universality places is for those countries that have a hard time or they don’t typically qualify through the qualifying tournaments,” Manalo said in a separate interview.“But obviously, who doesn’t want Manny Pacquiao in their Olympic lineup? Obviously, he’s an absolute legend.
“But I don’t know, because if you’re IOC, if you’re going to make changes, you implement those changes in the next Olympic cycle. It’s all up in the air, but we’re hopeful on the appeal for universality place because if it gets approved, obviously, that would be extremely beneficial for us,” he added.
