The Philippine National Police (PNP) is discouraging protesters to conduct rallies amid the threats coronavirus infection, saying there could be other ways that could be availed to voice out their opinion on certain issues.
The call came amid the expected conduct of protest actions for the June 12 celebration of ‘Araw ng Kalayaan’ when rallyists are believed to hold rallies against the Anti-Terrorism Bill.
PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa said that protesters should still observe the health safety protocols that include wearing of face masks, observance of physical distancing and the prohibition on mass gathering. Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, also appealed to the public to observe the protocols as part of the preventive measures against the spread of the Corona Virus Disease .
On the part of the PNP, he said they will exercise maximum tolerance for those who would insist on holding protest actions.“Maybe we could also suggest to them that they should just do it via online,” said Eleazar.
