MANILA, Philippines: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will lower its security alert following the conclusion of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) and 'Undas,' gradually shifting its attention to the Yuletide Season.
Col. Jean Fajardo, PNP Public Affairs Office chief, said the red alert will be lowered to heightened alert although the 117,600 policemen who were deployed for the BSKE and Undas will remain for post election duties in critical areas and areas of concern and will start patrol missions as the Christmas season nears.'At least 75 percent of the total strength will be dedicated to patrol as social gathering and events will snowball during the yuletide period,' Fajardo.
She assured that policemen will stay in transport terminals where Filipinos are expected to converge for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.Meanwhile, an army soldier who was wounded after a strafing incident by unidentified gunmen while inside a polling center in Sultan Kudarat was given a medal for his heroism.MGen. Alex Roller, commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central pinned a medal to Staff Sergeant Alejandro Pugon of the 6th Mechanized Infantry Battalion.
