The Philippine National Police ( PNP ) is searching for individuals behind online tutorials on manufacturing prohibited boga (improvised cannons). CCTV footage captured two children firing a boga in front of their house, prompting reprimands from a resident and barangay officials. The children admitted learning to make boga from a TikTok video.
PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo warned those sharing such tutorials that they will face serious charges, as boga has been banned for a long time. According to the Department of Health, boga was responsible for the majority of firecracker-related injuries, totaling 47 cases. Fajardo urged parents and guardians to supervise their children and prevent them from playing with boga due to the risk of blindness, burns, and other injuries potentially leading to amputation. In Rizal province, police destroyed 400 confiscated boga. The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) also apprehended two individuals allegedly selling illegal firecrackers worth P6,900 online. The suspects claimed they sold the illegal firecrackers to cover their school tuition fees, according to ACG spokesperson Police Lieutenant Wallen Mae Arancillo
