Embattled Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas will remain in his post despite the ongoing investigation on the propriety and for possible violations of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) during the celebration of his birthday on May 8, officials said on Thursday.
Based on the protocol of the Philippine National Police , a police official under investigation should be relieved from his post since he might influence the outcome of the investigation.
“We should also consider that Metro Manila is the center of the COVID-19 so if we just removed all of them from their posts, this might create a leadership vacuum that would somehow impact on the implementation of the preventive measures on the ground,” Triambulo told the Manila Bulletin in an interview.
Mañanita is a tradition in the police and the military wherein a police commander is greeted by his men and women to celebrate his birthday. “So as what I have been saying, individual liability must be determined so that the degree of responsibility could also be determined. Let us focus on the wrongs committed in order to correct them,” he added.
The photos of the celebration were earlier posted in NCRPO Facebook page and the NCRPO viber group for reporters. They were all deleted.
