The Philippine National Police (PNP) achieved significant milestones in 2024, including the arrest of high-profile personalities Apollo Quiboloy and Alice Guo. Additionally, the PNP recorded a 13.51% decrease in index crimes compared to the previous year.
The arrest of two high-profile personalities and the lower crime rate were the highlights of the accomplishments of the Philippine National Police ( PNP ) in 2024. After months on the run and a tense standoff that lasted days, Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Apollo Quiboloy was arrested by the PNP on Sept. 8 inside the sprawling KOJC property. The KOJC insisted that its leader was not arrested and that he voluntarily surrendered.
Quiboloy has since been jailed after two courts ordered his arrest on charges of qualified human trafficking and sexual and child abuse. Five days earlier, Alice Guo, the dismissed mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, was arrested by police in Indonesia. The PNP sent a team to fetch Guo from Indonesia and took custody of her when she arrived in the Philippines. Guo's case emanated from the raid on a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Bamban in June, where over 800 Filipinos and foreigners were rescued. Guo also faces a graft case before a Valenzuela City court and a material misrepresentation case before a Tarlac court. A quo warranto petition was also filed against her at a Manila court, and a petition to cancel her birth certificate was lodged before a Tarlac court. Guo was also charged with tax evasion, 87 counts of money laundering, and perjury and falsification before the Department of Justice (DOJ). The PNP was also credited for the 13.51-percent drop in index crimes in the first 10 months of 2024. PNP spokesman BGen. Jean Fajardo said that 30,322 index crime incidents were recorded from Jan. 1 to Nov. 8, lower than the 35,057 committed during the same period last year. Over the period, the police also recorded 30,166 focus crime incidents, 13.52 percent lower than the 34,883 incidents reported in the same period in 2023. Classified as focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, vehicle theft and motorcycle theft. Fajardo said the number of cybercrime cases also dropped by
