PacificLight Power Pte. Ltd. (PLP), a subsidiary of Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen), has received approval from Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) to construct a 600-megawatt hydrogen-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) facility on Jurong Island. The plant, scheduled to begin operation in January 2029, will initially operate with at least 30% hydrogen and have the capability to burn 100% hydrogen in the future. It will also include a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), marking the first integration of BESS with a CCGT unit in Singapore.

PacificLight Power Pte. Ltd. , a subsidiary of Meralco PowerGen Corp. , has received the green light from the Energy Market Authority of Singapore to build and operate a 600-megawatt hydrogen-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine facility in Singapore.

The new plant will be initially capable of using at least 30 percent hydrogen and will have the ability to burn 100 percent hydrogen in the future depending on market and regulatory demands. Its greenfield site on Jurong Island is expandable to accommodate a second CCGT unit as well as potential future integration of carbon capture, utilization, and storage technology, reinforcing PLP’s dedication to long-term decarbonization strategies.

PLP said the project underscores its commitment to cutting-edge solutions that improve system stability while reducing operating costs and environmental impact. The EMA selected PLP following a rigorous selection process as part of the regulator’s policy of ensuring balanced electricity supply based on expected demand growth in Singapore’s energy market.
