With a 70-percent market share, Panlilio said the telco giant was an industry leader in the data center space.Recently, PLDT announced the 12-megawatt expansion of its VITRO Makati 2 data center, bringing the facility’s capacity to 3,360 racks.

“The data centers and the towers will be useless if you don’t have international cable system and capacity. We continue to invest also on international cable systems,” Panlilio said. PLDT is setting its sights on hitting 1,000 terabits, or 1 petabit, of international data capacity in the next five years through investments in subsea cable systems.

It tripled its international capacity to 60 terabits per second when it activated the US-Transpacific Jupiter cable system in July last year. The 14,000-kilometer cable system links a landing station in Daet, Camarines Norte to Japan.
