A major geomagnetic storm is expected to continue tonight, sparking a continued aurora borealis
A phenomenon Canada’s space weather agency described as a “major geomagnetic storm” has hit, lighting up the northern sky in a dazzling display.

The Canadian Press quoted Canadian Hazards Information Service of Natural Resources Canada research scientist Robyn Fiori, who said the storm was caused by "coronal mass ejections" from the sun, sending vast amounts of solar matter towards Earth.
These eruptions can contain billions of tonnes of plasma and magnetic field from the sun’s outer atmosphere, or corona.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Centre has forecast ideal locations across Canada will continue tonight and begin to fade on Sunday night.
NOAA director Clinton Wallace described this weekend’s astral activity to be an “unusual and potentially historic event.”
