Among the four Asean-member countries of the auto industry group, the Philippines recorded the highest growth in motorcycle production. Trailing behind the Philippines were Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Malaysia produced 517,809 units lower than the previous year’s 520,072 units. Thailand’s output of 1,733,506 units was also lower than the 1,956,210 units it produced in the January to November 2023.
Malaysia’s motor vehicle output was also higher at 725,173 units compared with the previous year’s 708,376 units.Vietnam produced 157,115 units of motor vehicles, a 1-percent drop from the 158,709 units produced in 2023. Meanwhile, Indonesia posted the largest drop in terms of the units of motor vehicles produced at 885,516 units, 31.8 lower than the previous year’s 1,297,806 units.In a separate statement, the Philippine Parts Makers Association urged the Philippine government to pattern its strategies after Malaysia’s automotive parts manufacturing industry.
By focusing on energy-efficient vehicles , PPMA said Malaysia has attracted over $2.5 billion in investments and created 50,000 jobs in the auto parts sector.
