AFTER months of negotiations, the Philippines and Japan are set to strengthen the defense cooperation with signing of the Philippines-Japan Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) this week. The pact will be finalized during the courtesy call of Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko and Defense Minister Kihara Minoru with President Ferdinand R.

Japan Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko, who along with visiting Defense Minister Kihara Minoru will sign the Reciprocal Access Agreement that Tokyo forged with Manila, visited the site of the Metro Manila Rail Transit Line 3 on Sunday., Japan has supported MRT-3 with ODA for its rehabilitation project.

The pact will be finalized during the courtesy call of Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko and Defense Minister Kihara Minoru with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on Monday. Both top Japanese officials are currently in the Philippines for the 2nd Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting .Manila and Tokyo first announced their commitment to sign an RAA on April 2022; however, formal talks on the pact only started on November 29-30, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.
