THE Philippines won its bid to host the board that will manage the multimillion- dollar loss and damage fund of the United Nations Climate Change Commission.

The Philippines won its bid to host the board that will manage the multimillion- dollar loss and damage fund of the United Nations Climate Change Commission, besting seven other countries. Richard Sherman, cochair of the Board of Loss of Damage Fund, said the ad hoc subcommittee has selected the Philippines as the host country of the Board of Loss and Fund. He then asked the board to confirm the subcommittee decision during the second board meeting in Incheon, South Korea Tuesday afternoon.

“Can I take it that the board is ready to adopt this decision? Seeing no objection, let us congratulate the Philippines for this election,” the South African delegate said, drawing applause from the board members. “We believe the host country is a critical building bloc in the establishment and operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund,” Joven said.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said as host of the board, the Philippines “will ensure the Board’s accessibility for all Parties as it seeks to assist countries in responding to economic and non-economic losses.”President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has vowed to champion the voice of the most vulnerable to climate change as the country hosts the LDF Fund Board.

“We are also honored to have a seat on the Board itself, ensuring that the Philippines will be a formidable voice in promoting and advancing global climate action—an issue of critical interest to the country,” Marcos said.
