The Bureau of Immigration (BI) in the Philippines announced its intention to initiate deportation proceedings against a Chinese national arrested for allegedly spying on military facilities and critical infrastructure. Authorities identified the suspect as Deng Yuanqing, who allegedly entered the Philippines multiple times since 2015 and married a Filipina. The BI shared information with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to support the ongoing investigation. Deng and two Filipino accomplices were arrested after authorities discovered sophisticated surveillance equipment in their vehicle.

THE Bureau of Immigration Wednesday said it would initiate deportation proceedings against the Chinese national who was earlier arrested along with two Filipinos for alleged illegal surveillance and spying activities on military facilities and other critical infrastructures.

Viado said they have shared the information with the Department of Justice and the National Bureau of Investigation to support the ongoing investigation against the subject. “We will ensure that we will identify any foreign cohorts that might be in the country assisting him,” said Viado. The group had been under surveillance for allegedly conducting espionage activities around Luzon, including where Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement sites are located.
