Asked what they plan to do in case the multilateralism approach on the West Philippine Sea does not work, Vice President Leni Robredo underscored the need for a “credible defense” by bolstering the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Former National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said aside from weapons to defend its rights, the country needs the vigilance of Filipinos against aggressors.

"Dito sa atin, iyan ang dapat nating inuuna bago tayo humanap ng tulong sa mga kapitbahay at ibang bansa. Palakasin muna natin ang character at quality ng ating sambayanan. Kaya I was advocating national mobilization," he added."Napakahirap ng sitwasyon kung saan madali tayo susuko. Maraming bagay kung pinagpursigihan lang natin. As long as we continue to insist on things legally, in a peaceful manner, and fair," he said.
