The Philippines is seeing a significant rise in human immunodeficiency virus ( HIV ) cases, with health officials predicting that the number of HIV -positive individuals could reach 215,400 by the end of 2024. The Department of Health (DOH) highlighted this during World AIDS Day on December 1, 2024, emphasizing the need for comprehensive prevention and treatment strategies. As of September 2024, there are 131,335 confirmed HIV cases, with 61 percent of them being male.
Additionally, 88,544 individuals are receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 34,252 have achieved viral suppression. To combat the increase in cases and reduce stigma, the DOH, in collaboration with the Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC), launched the 'Undetectable=Untransmittable' campaign.
