The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) continues to monitor and challenge a Chinese Coast Guard vessel off the coast of Zambales despite challenging sea conditions. The PCG patrol vessel BRP Cabra successfully pushed back the Chinese vessel to 95 nautical miles from the coast. This incident follows the recent detection of multiple Chinese vessels within the Philippine exclusive economic zone (EEZ) , prompting calls for a dedicated West Philippine Sea (WPS) Command.

The Philippine Coast Guard through its patrol vessel BRP Cabra continues to shadow and push back a 134-meter China Coast Guard ship off the coast despite adverse conditions at sea.

Last Friday, Tarriela said CCG-5901, also known as the “monster ship,” was spotted 60.6 nautical miles away from the Paracel Islands. The vessel has reportedly been present in the western section of the Philippine exclusive economic zone since December 2024. Philippine Navy spokesperson for WPS Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad said this recommendation is “well received” by the military.
